Website for sports enthusiasts launched

A new social media platform, catering to the needs of sports fans, is now available.
Fanlime (www.fanlime.com), the brainchild of Marc Farrell, was launched yesterday at the All Out Sports Bar, Queen's Park Oval, Port of Spain.
Farrell said the website is aimed at "giving the fan more of a voice" and "making the athlete more accessible".
The Fanlime president is hoping this latest social media initiative puts Trinidad and Tobago on the map.
"People say you can find a Trini anywhere. In my experience that's definitely been true—World Cup Stadium in South Africa, in a bar in Iceland, on the top floors of Wall Street, you name it. In many ways I'm hoping that this becomes the next frontier in terms of places where you could find a Trinidadian.
"Everything is digital. The future of sports, social media, digital media, all wrapped into one. It's my hope, my dream, my ambition that I could be one of the guys to plant a flag for Trinidad and Tobago in that new frontier."
Farrell, a graduate of Harvard University, Cambridge University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), said Fanlime is a platform that facilitates discussion among sports fans.
"This is a forum to express yourself."
The 28-year-old president explained that athletes also stand to benefit from the website.
"We can almost eliminate the term athlete and think about these guys as brands. What they do transcends the field of play and the sport itself.
"Fanlime is committed to helping them generate a single forum to put all the different pieces of the puzzle around their brand together—the products they are affiliated with, the sponsors they promote, their own personal sense of style.
"You now take one step further as a modern day athlete," Farrell continued, "and put that brand to your fans in a more coherent fashion, allow them to engage with it, allow them to share in it, and ultimately drive new opportunity and new monetisation potential for you by virtue of doing so."
The young entrepreneur said he expects a new type of advertising to be featured on the Fanlime website.
