Free East Bay pet adoptions this weekend
Free dog and cat adoptions will be available throughout the East Bay during this weekend's second annual Maddie's Matchmaker Adoptathon.
The non-profit Maddie's Fund, The Pet Rescue Foundation is joining with more than 40 animal shelters and rescue organizations in Contra Costa and Alameda counties to offer adoptions at more than 70 locations. The group will pay those organizations $500 per standard adoption, $1,000 for each animal at least 7 years old or diagnosed with one or more treatable medical conditions, and $1,500 for each pet of that age and with a medical condition.
Last year's event led to 2,000 adoptions, according to the Maddie's Fund. The group has set aside $2 million this year, about double what it spent last year. The group, funded by Workday and PeopleSoft founder Dave Duffield and his wife Cheryl, is named for their miniature schnauzer that died in 1997.

Question: My miniature schnauzer growls and barks when visitors come over. I want him to be protective but I also want him to settle down when people are welcome. How do I fix this? Answer: I too want my dogs to at least alert me when something is
In an instant she had my SPCA-rescue mini schnauzer mixed terrier in her jaws, shaking him back and forth for the kill. Being pregnant, I couldn't do anything but stand there screaming and wait for my screaming dog (he was screaming) to be killed.

The original creators of the foundation, Dave and Cheryl Duffield, made a promise to their beloved Miniature Schnauzer, Maddie, to reimburse in dollars the amount of companionship and love Maddie gave to them before passing away in 1997.
Does anyone in Miami, FL know a breeder where i can find schnauzer ...
Please consider adopting a schnauzer from a rescue group or even the Humane Society! There are so many great dogs out there that need homes, and while there certainly are reputable breeders out there, there are also a lot of people who breed simply to sell the pups for money and have no regard for the health of the pet or the betterment of the breed. And NEVER buy a dog from a pet store… no matter what they say they do not know where the dogs came from nor do they care. I have two purebred miniature schnauzers that I obtained from rescue. They are great! If you have your heart set on a puppy, rescue groups and the Humane Society do get puppies! You may have to wait but you can be put on a call list for when puppies arrive. I adopted one of mine when he was a puppy and the other when she was an adult. Honestly, I don’t think I will ever adopt a puppy again.. it was so much work and that is difficult when everyone works all day. The adult female we adopted was already housebroken and so easy to train.. she became a part of my family in an instant. Anyway, please consider it: there is a Humane Society in North Miami, and there is Schnauzer Love Rescue which handles Florida as well as Tennessee and Georgia. I adopted one of my schnauzers from the Abandoned Pet Rescue in Ft. Lauderdale. We found her on Petfinder. You can go to Petfinder.com and search also. You can specify you want a schnauzer, young, male or female and all available pets that meet your criteria will pop up. Some will even have photos. Each listing will have a link to the shelter or group housing the pet and you can contact them to set up a meeting.
Good luck!
