Garden Accessories Courtyard returns to Casual Market
The International Casual Furniture & Accessories Market, held at The Merchandise Mart from Sept. 12-15, has announced it will once again feature the Garden Accessories Courtyard, a 10,000-sq.-ft. area that is home to exhibitors showcasing outdoor accessories. This dedicated area will be located on the Northwest side of the 8th Floor Market Suites.The Garden Accessories Courtyard is where buyers can find exhibitors featuring decorative accessories, outdoor lighting, hearth products, tabletop, rugs, pottery, statuary and more.
Accessories have become an integral way for retailers to increase their store's profits. As an easy last-minute purchasing option, accessories not only add to a store's merchandising mix, they also add to the bottom line. Accessories are the go-to component to update and complete an outdoor room.

Let me go on the record and say that it is a rare occasion when I would declare that there are too many throw pillows being used. Adding a few throw pillows on your outdoor furniture allows for the use of additional fabrics, for one thing. This will add interest and set up the possibility of using your throw pillows to create a color scheme. Since throw pillows are easy to replace, you have the ability to change the color scheme when you want a different look. I have been known to use spring/summer throw pillows and fall/winter throw pillows. For the cooler months (and, yes, I do use my porch all year), I will not only use a different color scheme, but may choose a fabric with a different texture that is heavier for a warmer, cozier feeling.
Now, I’m not saying that outdoor fabric covered throw pillows are inexpensive, but changing your throw pillows is one of the less costly ways of altering the look if you desire a change. If your throw pillows have zippers, you can buy fabric and have someone locally make new covers. This allows you to design the throw pillow. Adding buttons, grommets, fringe, cord, or other embellishments makes an ordinary throw pillow stand out and be noticed. Make sure, however, that these things are all suitable for outdoor use before investing in having someone make pillows for you.
Another plus to zippered outdoor throw pillows, is that you can remove the cover and toss it in the wash. When washing, follow fabric cleaning instructions carefully as these fabrics are man-made. Hot water is not recommended and the dryer is a big no-no. Fabrics that are solution dyed (same color throughout—not printed) can actually take a little bleach in the cleaning process. This is great for throw pillows that sit under trees which get dirtier faster and remain wet longer than those on a porch and/or in the sun.
