Trisha Yearwood to visit St. Mary's Elementary School in Cortland today
Syracuse, NY - Country singer Trisha Yearwood will be visiting - and entertaining - students, faculty and parents at St. Mary's Elementary School in Cortland this afternoon.
It's all part of the joint effort by the Campbell's "Labels for Education" program and the Grammy Foundation to provide school resources for a well-rounded musical education.
Syracuse Roman Catholic Diocese spokeswoman Danielle Cummings said Yearwood - wife of country superstar Garth Brooks - will be at St. Mary's today to participate in a panel conversation with other music industry professionals about the importance of the arts and music in education.
Yearwood then is scheduled to perform for the students, their parents and faculty at the school, Cummings said.
Cummings said the school won the visit from Yearwood as a result of being entered in the "Labels for Education" program.
That's a program where schools can earn points - redeemable for school supplies and resources - by collecting labels from Campbell's products. A company website noted more than $110 million in educational resources and equipment has been provided to schools since the "Labels for Education" program began in 1973.
In this time of schools being strapped for resources, the Campbell's program provides a welcome source of support, Cummings said, noting it was thrilling to have Yearwood visiting a school in the diocese as a result.
