Fundraising event to be held in Silver City | Fundraising Firms

The following events will occur in southwest Iowa communities in the coming days and weeks:

Crescent: Avenue of Flags comes to Crescent as an Eagle Scout program. The Scouts will install American flags on residents’ property in the morning and remove them at night on the following holidays: Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Patriot Day, the October Fall Festival and Veteran’s Day.

Avenue of Flags is sponsored by the Crescent Optimists, with all proceeds going to the Boy Scout troops.

Glenwood: Mills County Cancer Support Group, H.O.P.E., will meet the second Tuesday of every month at the Glenwood Public Library Annex from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

– The “Hitch Hike” series returns this summer. Each hike will start at the Loess Hills Lodge and the series will start with a moderate trail and work toward a 2.5-mile hike.

Hikes will begin at 7 p.m., except for the last hike on Sept. 20, which begins at 6 p.m. Hike dates and route/destination: June 21 (Badger Ridge Trail); July 19 (Fox Run Ridge Trail); Aug. 23 (Badger Ridge Trail); and Sept. 20 (West Ridge Trail).

The hikes cost $2 per person and include on-trail refreshments.

– The Junior Naturalist program for participants age 11-14 is conducted each calendar year.

After attending three nature-themed public programs and completing two independent activities, participants will receive an official Iowa Junior Naturalist patch and certificate.

Upcoming Junior Naturalist events: July 9 (Geocaching) and Nov. 5 (Outdoor Survival). Pre-registration is required as space is limited; call (712) 242-1197.

– KinderNature is a preschool program designed for children ages 3 to 5 years and their parents.

This unique program is full of hands-on learning, a story, crafts, and outdoor exploration and costs $4 per child.

The KinderNature event, beginning at 1:30 p.m., is June 26 (“Rainbow Connection”).

Participants are asked to meet at the Loess Hills Lodge.

Children must be accompanied by an adult.
